What is Moovby ?

Moovby is a peer-to-peer car sharing platform that allows drivers to rent cars from private car owners, and owners to rent out their idle cars for payment. Owners set their rental prices and earn a 75% commission from their rental revenue.

We are creating the marketplace to instantly share cars. Our goal at Moovby has always been to empower people to car-share everywhere and to help put millions of cars to a better use.

To join Moovby is easy! You have the option of using your Facebook account, or using your preferred email address. Once that is done, all you need to do is to put your identity, provide proof of identity and you’re good to go!

Registering as a Moovby member will only take 3 minutes and only comprises 3 steps! However, do allow up to 24 hours for our team to verify your identity before you can start renting or sharing a Vehicle.

Minimum Eligibility

  • You must be at least 21 and have a clean record.
  • You must be a licensed driver for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Can only have 2 minor violations or at-fault accidents in the past 3 years.
  • Cannot have a major violation in the past three years.
  • For specialty and exotic cars, you must be at least 25 years old.

In order to rent a car, you will need to:

  • Download our app, and sign up for an account.
  • Submit the documents required for verification (valid IC/passport and valid driving license. Please ensure that the image is clear.)
  • Once you have been verified, you can rent a car through our platform.

What vehicles do you accept and what are the requirements?

We accept cars manufactured on or after 2010; cars manufactured prior to 2010 will be examined on a case-by-case basis. Note that all cars are subject to a stringent vetting process.

Your car must not exceed 10 years from the date of registration.

To rent out your car, you will need to:

  • Download our app, and sign up for an account.
  • Fill up your banking details in Settings.
  • Fill in your car detail at 'Add New Vehicle'.
  • Upload your insurance cover note, vehicle grant and road tax for verification.
  • Your car will be verified within 24 hours. Upon verification, your car will be listed on our platform.

To rent a vehicle, you will have to upload your Identity Card (IC) and driving license. Moovby may request for additional documents like your utility bill (e.g Astro/TNB) or matric/student card (if student) for further verification and approval. To list out your car, you will have to upload your vehicle’s grant and your car’s road tax. We will screen it first and you will be able to start renting it out upon verification and approval.

Moovby is not responsible for any service and maintenance of any vehicle on the platform. It is the vehicle owner's responsibility to service and maintain his/her vehicle.

Renters will pay directly to us. We will disburse the payment to you on weekly basis.

Unlike some car-sharing platforms, Moovby is free to join. However, rates vary depending on the type of vehicle and delivery options. Vehicles on Moovby are up to half the price of traditional vehicle rental companies.

Yes, as long as that person meets our renter eligibility requirements. However, shared accounts are not allowed, and it’s important that you only list your own driver’s license on your Moovby account. If you would like to let another driver use the car during your trip:

  • You understand and agree that, should you let someone else operate a Car during a Rental on your account, that person has independently reviewed and meets our Eligibility Criteria. If the other driver does not meet our eligibility criteria, you may be fined.
  • Further, you understand and agree that you are solely responsible for any damage, loss, claims, and liability arising from actions taken by the other driver.

  • If you allow an unauthorized driver (i.e. someone who does not meet our eligibility requirements) to operate a Moovby car during any trip period, you will be charged RM250. Payment of this fine does not imply insurance coverage for the unauthorized driver.

Renter is responsible to return the car with the same amount of fuel when the keys are being handed over. If the car is returned with less fuel, additional fees (approx. RM10/bar or more depending on the vehicle) will be charged on the renter. As a renter, you are responsible for returning the car with the same amount of gas it had at the start of your trip. If a car is returned with less gas than it had at the start of the trip, you will be charged for the full price of the missing gas. Here are a couple tips that can help refueling go smoothly:

  • Before setting off on your trip, check if the car takes premium unleaded, regular unleaded, diesel, or electricity!
  • When booking your trip, it helps to allocate 15 minutes at the end to refill gas. You might not need all that time, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

We are working closely with Allianz to provide an insurance policy for both parties during the rental period. Check our insurance policy below for more information.

Insurance Policy:

  • 24 hours roadside assistance: Providing 24 hours roadside assistance during a car breakdown.
  • Personal Accidents Benefits: Include death or permanent disablement.
  • Medical Expenses Benefits: You are covered up to RM 1000.
  • Funeral Expenses: You are covered up to RM 500 and double indemnity benefit
  • Corrective Surgery Benefits: You are covered up to RM 1000
  • Hospital Income Benefit: You are covered up to RM 30/day (up to maximum of 60 days)
Car Assistance Program:
  • We can provide 24-hour emergency towing
  • The emergency towing services shall be made available in the event the named vehicle is immobilized anywhere in Malaysia excluding the islands except for Penang and Langkawi.
Minor Roadside Repair / Miscellaneous:
  • Taxi Assistance: Reimbursement of up to RM 60
  • Arrangement for car rental and hotel accomodation: Arrangement are up to RM 400 respectively
  • Car Replacement: Up to 5 days
  • Compassionate Cover: You are covered up to RM 6000
  • Flood Cover: You are covered up to RM 1500

Immediately inform Moovby regarding the incident. We will try our best to assist you and resolve the issue. Any involvement of a third party/agency before us will not be under our responsibility. However, the renter will still have to take full responsibility on the damage.

Summons will not be covered by Allianz. It is the renter's responsible to pay for the summon. If a summon is issued to you, please contact Moovby and provide us an update. Let us know what type of summons you were charged with (eg: speeding, PDRM, JPJ, DBKL, etc).

We strictly forbid users to rent a vehicle for a third party individual. The user who is requesting for a vehicle rental should be the driver.

It depends on your distance and the vehicle location. Generally, vehicle owners will deliver the vehicle to you if the distance is less than 3KM. You may also pick up the vehicle by heading to the vehicle location. We encourage users to negotiate on this matter to reach mutual agreement between the vehicle owner and renter.

The price displayed on our app is as-is based on short periods of rental using a pay-per-use business model. For longer periods of rental, you may contact us at [email protected] for a price quotation.

No, it is against our terms and conditions and terms of service. Only the renter is permitted to drive the car. The renter shall take full responsibility during the rental period. A penalty will be imposed if found guilty of any infractions of our terms.

A renter will submit a booking to the car owner. The car owner will receive notifications (SMS and Email) to approve or reject the booking. Once approved, the renter will receive a notification (SMS and Email) to proceed with payment. Finally, the car owner will receive a notification (SMS and Email) once the payment has been made. The booking is now confirmed.

You will be notified through email once the owner approves your booking and payment has been made.

There is no registration/membership/annual fee imposed. Users will be able to rent cars based on the pricing shown in the app. Moovby charges vehicle owners 25% out of every transaction and successful booking made on the platform.

Moovby will try our best to replace the car with a similar model (subject to availability). Alternatively, you may request for a refund but it will take us some time to process it.
